The main causes of accidents in an office environment are;

An ACCIDENT is an unplanned / unpremeditated event caused by unsafe acts and / or unsafe conditions whether an INJURY has resulted or NOT.
A NEAR MISS is an unplanned event that has the potential to cause injury to people or damage to property.
The figures above are taken from a wide variety of industries and whilst the actual figures may be contested, the basic principles apply universally.
For every event leading to a Major Injury, there can be as many as 10 causing Minor Injuries, 30 resulting in Property Damage and hundreds of Near Misses that cause neither damage nor injury.
Investigation
If Near Misses are reported, investigated and the root causes rectified, it can save people from suffering harm and property from damage.

The technique of anticipating and controlling events so that accidents are eliminated and the subsequent costs in time, money and suffering are avoided.
